Over the last 50 or so years, possibly thousands of people have enjoyed Hillside Sports Club's facilities, either, when they were school students, residents of Umtali/Mutare or with visiting teams.

You will be pleased to know that the Club is still functioning and the Mutare-ites are determined to keep it running but, in the current economic climate, this is becoming more difficult. An idea has been put forward to offer “International membership” to past Mutare/Umtali folk, who, like all of us, do not want the golf course etc. to become a low-cost housing area or mealie fields and this message is being sent out to gauge the response from folk around the world.

International Membership

In return for $50 per year (or the equivalent) International Members will be issued with a Membership card which they may be able to use to get a discount when playing sport at far-flung venues . In addition they would be welcomed back to Hillside with red-carpet treatment and in-between time we will send out a bi-monthly newsletter about the goings on at the Club and in Mutare.

Hillside Club still has tennis, bowls and golf and there is enthusiastic support, though numbers are no where near what they used to be. The golf course is very playable thanks to donations of excellent equipment, the hard work done by the 5 workers and the help and support from some members.

As in the past, many enjoyable rounds of golf are played on the same layout that has been enjoyed over the years. Trees are a feature  of the course and they have all grown and matured over the years and they, with the general vegetation, are a haven for the abundant bird-life, with some very special species on view.

People also use the course for walking and exercising their dogs and many sundowners are enjoyed on the deck area with it's wonderful view.

For anyone interested, please send us an email to hillsidemutare@gmail.com  and we and   will send you a Membership application form and all the details

We look forward to linking up with old friends and, who knows, maybe we can have an International team playing in our own Ryder Cup which is held every 2 years.
