GOLF AT HILLSIDE.

Visitors are always welcome - a visit to the Eastern Districts is not complete with time spent at Hillside.

A golf course that was opened in 1911, Hillside has the reputation of being a wonderful layout  that a is a true test for all. The first 9 runs through woodland and water hazards add to the character. The second 9 is more open but the tree-lined holes still test the players' ability.

The outstanding feature of the course is  the tree population with an incredible variety of mature indigenous trees - in some cases more than 100 years old. ( see separate section for details)

The bird-life is also spectacular and visitors come from as far afield as South Africa to see certain species. (see separate section for detail.)

Hillside has produced many well known golfers over the years and names like Denis Hutchinson,  Muss Gammon, Teddy Webber, Brian Turner and Ivan Palframan played on the course in their formative years.

The club has a unique claim to have its own Ryder Cup which was donated by Samuel Ryder in 1937 and this cup is still played for every 2 years.
